So I got my street drag racing licence from the MSA office at Killarney. And its my first event. To skip all the boring parts... I go through scrutineering and then i pop into the line ready to run! F14 tagged huge on my windows, was abit embarrising amougst all those V tecs, toys etc... but was ok.... Im at the christmas tree next to a 180i ballade, my heart is beating in my throwt!!!! warming up the tyres... and staged! revs at +/-3500 and the lights go (damn those lights change fast) anyway we off, to my surprise im actually neck and neck with the honda, well till second gear that was, then enjoyed the view of his tail lights!

Bottom line was it was a very good experience, and i'd encourage any body to get the Licence which is R110 for drags and R110 for gymkhana, its a whole lotta fun! even more that the illegals!

I did 5 runs, fastest time being 17.218 with reaction time of 1.189 (sucks) and that was against the honda!
Stevh0
nice going there boet!

next time tie the honda to the tree biggrin.gif
KCi69

fun? BAH!!! lol speechless-smiley-024.gif
day started roundabout 6:30 - i was in the very first race vs uno turbo. finished 3 of my runs by 7:30. then waited in the queue for 2 hours to finish my 4th run at 9:30 - granted the accident took up 30 mins and the pitch burnout another 15minutes.

so if u left before lets say 8:30 pm u cud have had a fun time. not forgetting the free for all the golden circle people had.

What accident?

White box BMW took out a pole at the end of the strip...not too sure on details, but it did come back on the tow truck!
KCi69
LOL... so there was more action than anticipated

17.2 is a respectable time for a Corsa. That is in line with my average time on my old Fiesta with cams and branch that I use to run. Reaction time needs work, so here is a tip - drop the clutch on the second yellow light - you will bring your R/T down to about 0.8 by doing that. My fastest R/T at Killarney = 0.6 seconds so trust me it works.
Teck
well done flaked!! i saw you there---red corsa correct?? well done..now can somebody tell me what insurance say when you drag?? im keen to drag at killarney but dont want them to tune about it now being a race car and shit like that...

1: Dont tell them
2: Dont Crash
flaked1
Yip, red corsa is right, it's easy, u can remove ur plates or MSA actually offers a seperate insurance as well that u can take out when u apply for ur licence! It R68 extra/month I think, i didnt go for that option tho!
CvZ
If you crash, your on your own. Insurance will not pay, so it is for your pocket. I use to marshal at Killarney, and some guys - after they crased - would ask us to please tow there car outside and leave it in a ditch so they can call a tow-truck, but we could not do that, so my advice, don't crash. If you feel unsure or afraid, rather not race.
Teck
if i drag at killarney then leave and crash in the street im fine? they will still pay out?? just heard a rumour if you race at killarney they not interested in insuring it AT ALL...bullshit???

I never had trouble with insurance. How can they not insure you for racing at Killarney once in a while?
Herr von Klinkenhoffer
Yes, you can have your car insured against race damage via a special endorsement by the insurance company you are insured with. But then you waiver other stuff like 3rd parties and so forth. Expect to pay like 1k a month extra or so if you are < 25
KCi69
Heavy sh!t that, I will race undercover...
Teck
where do you get the liscense from---ya killarney but where bouts? when you go there and fill in the forms walla do they give you the card there and then ready for the next drag event?
flaked1
Yip the card is done while u wait!Pit area MSA office opposite the WPMC towers

who cares about reaction time.. it does not effect your end trap time at all so even if you wanted to take 5seconds to pull away, it wont matter since the clock only starts ticking the moment you move.

If you take on your buddy with an equilly matched car, reaction time is what will make you cross the line first, which is a win in the eye of the crowds, even if your E/T might be slower than his, i.e. Car A R/T 0.6 E/T 17.2 - Car B R/T 1.2 E/T 17.0. In this case Car B had the faster time, but Car A would have crossed the line first.

Remeber, when you are "dicing" someone, it's not about who has the lowest E/T but who crosses the line first.

this is funny! anything can go wrong (brake failure etc) and your car can crash. u make it sound like people do it on purpose grinning-smiley-045.gif I've been racing there for a while. no insurance problems YET (touch wood). besides crashing, just tape up ur number plate or remove it when racing.

I know anything can go wrong, but what I am saying is that if it does go wrong on the racetrack, you are on your own. I know some things are beyond control, and the risk of racing is high, but if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. grinning-smiley-045.gif

After all - motorsport is dangerous, it says so on the ticket. grinning-smiley-045.gif

i thought when the lights go green the clock starts and when you break the laser approx 2 metres away that gives you your reaction time??

how else is it done?? ive never dragged there-but im getting my msa license tomorrow so see some of you at the track...!!

Looks like we not gonna run on Friday night. We fitted a new CT 26 Turbo but it is not boosting as we want too.

Anyway.... Night Drags is a waist for us. The tar is way too cold and even with semi's you dont get enough heat in the tires for gripp.

See you at the track.
