the reason why i prefer not to use this forum. ppl here just cant give credit where its due. it was florin (and apparently otto - although i'm not 100% sure - but who would build an expensive drift car if they weren't into drifting???) that arranged for drifting practice at wesbank.
i haven't seen anyone else try this and succeed yet, so my applause and thanks go out to them.
florin is often in kimberley, and he is here in joburg every wednesday to encourage drifting in gauteng, adn south africa. even zwartkops is still blackflagging drifters, so for wesbank to offer support in the use of their track to practice on, that is a big commitment to the emerging trends in motorsport. i'm sure once permission is attained to practice at other tracks, the guys will be more than grateful to be able to practice under different conditions.
and as for not seeing the point of building a drifter out of a CSL - that is the owners choice. if he afford to build a drift car out of a csl - good for him. a car designed to have plenty of traction is often the better choice to build a drift car from. think about it, in order to have controlled and predictable drifting, you need as much traction as possible - and its also nice that the CSL has plenty of power to overcome the traction that it does have.
drifting is a subjective type of sport - and everyone is entitled to their opinions - but to attack the credibility of the few guys in south africa who are actually trying to promote a newly emergent type of motorsport, is a definitive show of the conservative attitude of those "motorsport enthusiasts" who share the same attitude as the curators of the zwartkops "international" racetrack!!!!
I have no politics...these are my views.
I do think Florin has a bit of a big head from this... I never said anything about whats he's doing for drifting, or what he has done. I think someone has read a little 2 much into what I said.
Why take a car that was designed by BMW to be a grip car, and everyting on it designed to make it stick like crazy
BTW, U want a car that has grip on the front wheels...
A standard Manual E46 M3 would be much better, as there is no SMG cutting the power when the handbrake is pulled, a manual box, so u can clutch kick, shift lock, etc...
As I said... my car is getting setup for track racing... on only my 2nd time out on street tyres, and stock brakes I was running on par with like the 5th quickest recorded e30 N/A lap time on the Z .
So my money now goes into semi's, brakes and better suspension...
